About Robyn

I think I've known my whole life I would have a career working with children. As an undergrad, I considered working with children through music, then as a special education teacher, but eventually settled in the psychology department. I volunteered on a crisis hotline and knew I had made the right decision by pursuing mental health.

After earning a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Miami University, I went on to complete a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Utah. Most recently, I earned a certificate in Therapy with Foster and Adoptive Families from Portland State University. I am licensed in the state of Texas as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW #40735). I have worked with children in an inpatient psychiatric hospital, residential/day treatment center, group home, outpatient family services, and even in the Emergency Department.

My focus on adoption and attachment has developed naturally out of my experience with children who have been abused and neglected. After working briefly for Child Protective Services, I had the good fortune of being asked to write home studies for a Central Texas foster care agency. This blossomed into a thriving home study practice and the opportunity to increase my knowledge about the unique issues associated with adoption and attachment.

In 2010, I joined the Board of Directors for Adoption Knowledge Affiliates and am serving as the Education Committee Chair. AKA is my constant reminder that the greatest teacher is not books, certificates, articles or conferences. The greatest teacher is the people living adoption every single day.

I truly believe as though I am doing the work I was destined to do. Every day I marvel at how lucky I am to spend my working days with children and families, helping them discover within themselves what they already possess.

Although I have a focus on adoption and adoptive families, the heart of my practice is children and the people who love and care for them.
